We LOVE Fly Guy!! Do you?

Do your kids LOVE Fly Guy? Oh my goodness, my kids eat him up! Even more my boys LOVE him!! And finding books that boys are especially into is so so important to get our precious kiddos hooked on reading! My girls love him too, which makes it a win-win! And as a BONUS Fly Guy books are chapter books. Chapter books people. It's kind of a big deal in first grade! To say the least We LOVE Fly Guy!!
And for the bargain of the century, I got this little guy on Amazon for about $6! Shut the front door! Best $6 this teacher ever spent. Worth every penny!! Click HERE or on the picture to snag one yourself! :)

So when I whipped out Fly Guy along with this book, my kids were all ears and all giggles and oh.so.excited to find out that I own *almost* every single Fly Guy book. It's true! I kinda like Fly Guy too!
Click HERE or on the picture to grab this book for under $4!

Well the squeals got louder when I told them that Mr. Fly had a very important question: he wanted to know if he could come home with each of them and be their pet for a night--since he is the world's smartest pet! He of course asked them this question in a very buzzy voice (aka Mrs. Foxwell deserves an Emmy for her acting skills!) One of my boys told me today that his favorite part about Mr. Fly was his voice! Bless his heart. He immediately followed by asking whose turn it would be today to take Mr. Fly home! Take him home? Oh yes dear friends Mr. Fly can now be anyones pet thanks to this FUN take-home bag:
The beginning of the year is such an important time to build excitement for reading and to get to know our precious kiddos. This bag does both! Mr. Fly has written a letter to his new friends explaining that he wants to be their new pet and go home to meet their family!
They get to take this journal home, along with Mr. Fly, and I like to throw in a copy of the book too for them to read with their family in this bag. You could use any bag but I just use the $0.50 reusable bags from Wal-Mart (I'm letting my secret out--these bags are fabulous and are only half a dollar! That means two for a $1! Impressive math skills, huh?! This girl knows a deal when I see it!)
At home they get to write and draw about their family and about their time with Mr. Fly:
Then they bring everything back the next day (or two...) and share their journal pages with the class! What a great listening and speaking activity! Then the highly anticipated part comes when they reach into a bag with name cards and pick the next student who will get to take Mr. Fly home (with drum rolls, of course!):

When everyone has had a turn, I put the completed journal into our classroom library! The students LOVE re-reading each others pages!
The best authors around can often be found right in our classroom! :)

If you would like to add this fun Hi Family! Take-Home Bag to your family/community unit or classroom activities, I have put everything in a packet for you!
